You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance. Psalms 66:12
As a young child I often wondered why life was so hard. I never understood why my mom drank so much and why she was always so upset, or why she and my step-dad would constantly fight. I never understood why I had to go through so much.
I couldn’t even imagine that there was a God. I mean, how could there be? Surely, if there was a God, then countless little girls like myself would never have to endure such heart-ache, right? Wrong.
God found me. And something happened when God found me. He loved on me and restored me. He showed me that my life, in all of its brokenness, could be made beautiful. Imagine that.
But wait, I had to go through the fire. Reminds me of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Three guys completely devoted to the Lord, yet the Lord didn’t stop them from going into the fire, He delivered them out of the fire.
They wouldn’t worship King Nebuchadnezzar so he tied them up and threw them into the fiery furnace. And then he noticed something. Daniel 3:24-27 Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?” They replied, “Certainly, Your Majesty.” He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!” So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.
He had them go through it. Not because He’s a mean God, but to show His power, that you can actually go through the fire and not get burned. The fire in my life was years of growing up in a dysfunctional family. I made it out to the other side to let the world know God is powerful and can completely bring you out of whatever fire your walking through. And life still has its fires. We all go through stuff that feels like we’re going through the fire. Trust Him to bring you out unbound and unharmed.
What about you? Is the Lord having you walk through something right now that you’ve been asking Him to deliver you from? I promise you when you go through fire, you will come out changed. There are times when we have to go through something, even when we don’t understand it, for His greater purposes.
Lord, whatever fire we walk through, we only ask that you bring us out unbound and unharmed, that we would be able to tell everyone of your great power. We will trust you to bring us out of the fire and into that place of abundance. Amen.
Is. 43:2b- When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
